Interior Designer | Certified Carpenter
A full gut modern farmhouse kitchen transformation in Carleton Place designed and built from the ground up to improve flow, function, and everyday comfort.
This Design | Build renovation re-imagined the entire space — removing the corner pantry to expand the working kitchen, centered the island, installing new 24×24 flooring throughout, and replacing the patio door with a large picture window to bring in balanced natural light. Custom features include an 8′ pocket door to the laundry room, a handcrafted beam between the kitchen and living room, a designer hood vent, built-in bench seating with custom cushions, window valances in the breakfast area, and a quartz waterfall island that anchors the space beautifully.
Every detail was thoughtfully planned and executed by Cindy & Gilbert to create a warm, functional modern farmhouse kitchen tailored to how this family lives
Project Photos
The following photos showcase the transformation of this Carleton Place kitchen from a dark, dated layout into a bright and highly functional modern farmhouse space. Thoughtful planning, custom features, and quality craftsmanship helped create a kitchen designed for everyday living and connection.
Before Photos
These before photos show the original kitchen layout prior to renovation in Carleton Place. Dark cabinetry, a corner pantry, and an off-centre island limited both circulation and natural light. The goal of this Design | Build project was to open the space, improve functionality, and create a brighter kitchen better suited to everyday living.
design build story highlights
Each project has an unique story that makes it special. Here are some highlights behind the photos.
reconfigure space
We redesigned the kitchen layout to improve flow and function. First, the corner pantry was removed so the cabinetry could extend into a full working corner. As a result, the kitchen feels larger and more efficient. The island was then centred to create better circulation between the kitchen, breakfast area, and living room.
CUSTOM ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS
A custom beam was designed and installed to define the opening between the kitchen and living room. This detail adds structure while maintaining the open-concept feel. In addition, an 8-foot pocket door was introduced at the laundry room to improve access without interrupting the cabinetry layout.
LIGHT & CONNECTION TO OUTDOORS
The original patio door was replaced with a large picture window to better balance the window wall. This change also increased natural light in the breakfast area. To complement the architecture, custom valances were designed to soften the space and reinforce the modern farmhouse character.
BUILT-IN FEATURES & FINISHING TOUCHES
Custom bench seating with tailored cushions created a comfortable dining nook. At the same time, the waterfall island established a strong focal point. A custom hood vent and new 24 × 24 flooring completed the renovation and tied the entire space together.

Gilbert is a total perfectionist when it comes to his work and Cindy takes her designs very seriously. Extremely high quality work and would highly recommend to anyone looking to have any type of work done. You get what you pay for and let me tell you it’s well with the money.
