Custom Carport Addition

| Merrickville

Design | Build

Team Cindy & Gilbert Lutes

Interior Designer | Certified Carpenter

This Merrickville Design | Build project began with a practical goal: create a Mid-Century Inspired covered carport that would look good while also providing cover for their vehicles.

The solution was a custom pine post-and-beam carport addition carefully integrated into the existing structure.

The exposed timber framing establishes a strong visual rhythm across the front of the home, while the warm pine structure adds depth and character to what was previously an open driveway edge.

A cedar privacy screen wall helps define the transition between the parking area and the front walkway, as well as between the laneway and neighbours property line.

The result is a cohesive architectural enhancement that feels original to the home—adding shelter, structure, and presence while resolving the integration of old and new construction with care and intention.

Photo Highlights

These before and after images showcase how transformative a modern upgrade can have to the look and feel of your homes exterior.

Please Note: other exterior work was done by others. Our client wanted to improve the entire front of her house once the carport renovation was completed so her whole home looked cohesive with the beautiful new addition.

Carport Feature Highlights

Each project has an unique story that makes it special. Here are some highlights behind the photos.

Roofline Integration

One of the defining challenges of this project was working with the original roof overhang, which remained in place. Instead of removing or altering this portion of the home, the new roofline was thoughtfully tied into the existing structure. From inside the finished carport, the original roof is concealed with wood cladding so the transition reads as intentional and architectural rather than retrofitted.

Lighting

Lighting was essential to the functionality of this space, since we do have a long dark season here in Ontario. We incorporated pot lighting into the soffit, and added linear Halen Lights on the left and right of the carport opening. And of course a light fixture at the entry door.
