This two storey porch rebuild in Ottawa involved removing the original structure and constructing a new upper balcony, front entry platform, railings, and stairs to improve safety, durability, and curb appeal for this brick duplex.

The original porch was deteriorating and no longer safe. Because this was an investment property with tenants occupying both units, it was essential that the rebuild met current structural standards and building code requirements while maintaining safe access throughout construction.

This two storey porch rebuild in Ottawa included full demolition of the failing structure, installation of new support framing and posts, reconstruction of the lower porch platform, construction of a new upper balcony, and installation of new guardrails and entry stairs. Careful attention was given to structural stability, long-term performance, and compatibility with the existing brick façade so the finished porch would integrate naturally with the building’s original character.

Work completed in accordance with City of Ottawa residential construction requirements. As well architectural drawings, along with engineer specifications were required to complete this build. We had to ensure that the tenants also had secure and safe access at all times during the extensive renovation, which caused us to also uphold city bylaws during both the demolition and rebuild.

Finishing Touches

The entire porch and balcony were removed, and we started from scratch and rebuilt to code. This included the balcony and roof, as well as the bottom double porch area with both staircases being completely redone.
